What if I’m already part-way through unlocking a new Hero when this change is made?

Will we be rewarded Amber based on our player level at the end of Season 3?

<p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>Today’s blog post is all about our upcoming new soft currency, Amber! </p><p>This highly anticipated new addition comes off the back of months of internal testing, community feedback, and our never ending passion to make Predecessor the best it can be.</p><p>So with that in mind, let’s jump right into it!</p><h2 id="why-introduce-a-new-currency" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Why introduce a new currency?</h2><p>This new currency, called Amber, is being introduced primarily as a means to purchase new Heroes as soon as they come out.</p><p>Under the previous system, player choices were limited due to the inefficiencies suffered when trying to unlock a Hero.</p><p>What do we mean by this? Well imagine you’re close to unlocking a Hero and all of a sudden we introduce a shiny new Hero that catches your eye instead. Switching who you’re unlocking sets you back, forcing you to either abandon your current progress to start working from scratch on a new character, or stick with the decision you made and delay unlocking the new Hero, essentially forcing your hand. All this is to say that it forced players to make tricky decisions.</p><p>There’s more reasons besides this, such as overflow XP being lost instead of being banked for your next unlock, and perhaps most importantly the pressure the system placed on new players who had to make important game decisions with very limited information and no way to delay the decision. Should a new player be prioritising Hero X as their first unlock? By the time they had enough XP to unlock that Hero their perspective of the game and their priorities as a player may very well have shifted.</p><h2 id="how-does-this-affect-hero-acquisition" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How does this affect Hero Acquisition?</h2><p>Under the previous system, each Hero had a number of stages that needed to be unlocked using experience before they were fully unlocked and available to use. Newer Heroes tended to have more locks and therefore required more XP to unlock, whereas older Heroes had less and could be unlocked quicker. Alternatively you could always bypass this process by using our main currency, Platinum, to purchase a Hero outright.</p><p>With the introduction of Amber, we will be removing this system of unlock stages. Instead, every Hero will have a predetermined cost that you can pay using either Amber or Platinum, a price that’ll vary based on that Hero’s newness or difficulty.</p><p>Let’s take Argus for example who is arriving in the upcoming V0.15 game update. With no way to earn Amber ahead of his release it felt only right that he starts out with a slight discount, meaning he’ll only cost 8,600 Amber on launch. Future Heroes will start at the higher cost shown above.</p><p>Please note that these costs are subject to change!</p><h2 id="what-if-im-already-part-way-through-unlocking-a-new-hero-when-this-change-is-made" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What if I’m already part-way through unlocking a new Hero when this change is made?</h2><p>If you’re already working on unlocking Heroes using the old system of XP and unlock stages, have no fear! We’ll be converting earned unlock XP into Amber which you can then put towards purchasing any Heroes going forwards.</p><p>Once V0.15 hits, we’ll count up how much Unlock XP you have towards Heroes you haven’t unlocked and convert it into Amber.</p><p>For every 50,000 XP you have towards unlocking Heroes you’ll get 8,600 Amber. Nice!</p><h2 id="how-do-you-acquire-amber" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How do you acquire Amber?</h2><p>There are two main ways you can earn Amber.</p><h3>Player Account Level Up</h3><p>By increasing your player account level, you’ll also be increasing your stash of Amber!</p><p>Every time you level up you’ll receive a small amount of Amber as a reward. The amount you get will vary slightly based on what level you are.</p><h3>Playing PVP Matches</h3><p>By playing Predecessor you’ll passively earn yourself some Amber.</p><p>Every time you complete a match you’ll get a small amount of Amber based on how well it went for you. Everyone gets Amber for finishing a match of course, but to the victors go the spoils, so you can expect a smidge more if your team came out on top.</p><h3>Other sources</h3><p>In the future we’ll be adding more ways to get Amber that reward you for interacting with everything Predecessor has to offer.</p><h2 id="will-we-be-rewarded-amber-based-on-our-player-level-at-the-end-of-season-3" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will we be rewarded Amber based on our player level at the end of Season 3?</h2><p>Yep!</p><p>As an extra bonus for your support during Early Access Season 3 we’re pleased to confirm that you will have additional Amber credited to your account based on your final Player Level at the end of Season 3.</p><table><tr><td><p><b>End of Season Player Level</b></p></td><td><p><b>Total Bonus Amber</b></p></td></tr><tr><td><p>50</p></td><td><p>8,600</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>60</p></td><td><p>17,200</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>70</p></td><td><p>25,800</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>80</p></td><td><p>34,400</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>90</p></td><td><p>43,000</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>100</p></td><td><p>51,600</p></td></tr></table><h2 id="will-it-be-different-for-argus" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will it be different for Argus?</h2><p>Argus is a bit of an edge case as he’ll appear in game as per our current system but will be caught up in the transition to the new system once V0.15 rolls out on March 5th, 2024.</p><p>As such you will still be able to unlock Argus by earning XP towards him a week before the update as you would have done under the old system.</p><p>If you succeed in fully unlocking him, he’ll be available to play on day one of his release as per the old system.</p><p>If you don’t quite net all of the XP needed for that day one Argus unlock, you’ll be able to buy him for 8,600 Amber on March 5th, with any XP you had put towards him being converting into Amber as previously covered.</p><div class="pg-separator"></div><p>That just about covers things for now, but please reach out to us on Discord or Reddit if you have any further questions!</p><p>We hope you enjoy these changes. <p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>With Season 3 coming to a close, we wanted to catch you up a few key details about what you can expect from our upcoming V0.15 update and the end of the current season.</p><h2 id="v015" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">V0.15</h2><h6>The final update of EA Season 3</h6><h3>Key Features</h3><p>As we close in on the release of Predecessor&#39;s final update of EA Season 3, we wanted to share some details on what you can expect from us.</p><p>Firstly we&#39;re excited to confirm that V0.15 will launch with our reworked Hero Acquisition model. Following your feedback, a new soft currency is being introduced that will allow you to immediately purchase new Heroes such as Argus with no need to grind out specific XP for them. We&#39;ll delve into this topic more thoroughly in a blog post later in the week, so stay tuned for that.</p><p>There&#39;s more too - we&#39;ve got some improvements to Jungle AI, tweaks for controller users and the usual slew of new skins, items and Hero tweaks!</p><p>Lastly we&#39;re keen to get our new Hero, Argus (previously known by his codename of Emerald), into your hands. The community have been hard at work unlocking various teases for this new Mad Mage of the Midlane and we cannot wait for you to meet him on the battlefield!</p>

Not only are the above features coming, but we&#39;re also releasing a very important collection of broad, backend improvements and optimisations that will fundamentally impact the long-term health of Predecessor.</p><h3>Release Date</h3><p>As a result of these changes, the final update of EA Season 3 will release on <b>March 5th</b>, a week outside of our usual 3 weekly update cycle.</p><p>We don&#39;t intend to make a habit of late updates, but we hope you can understand that this comes from a desire to deliver the best update we can.</p><h2 id="end-of-season-3-rewards" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">End of Season 3 Rewards</h2><p>V0.15 marks the end of EA Season 3. <p>Hello,</p><p>Welcome to the third instalment of the Predecessor toxicity report!</p><p>For the first time, we’re saying hello to players on multiple platforms, as our PlayStation beta is currently ongoing! If you haven’t had a chance to try Predecessor on console, don’t miss your chance to check it out <a href="https://www.predecessorgame.com/play/playstation-beta-access" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><u>here</u></a>.</p><p>Because it has been a while since the last time we spoke about anti-toxicity measures, we appreciate that some of you might be confused about how exactly our system works, so below we&#39;re including a little refresher.</p><p>When setting out to tackle issues of toxicity, we have a three-pronged approach utilizing a mixture of automatic detection, AI chat moderation, and manual actioning.</p><h2 id="how-we-tackle-toxicity" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How we tackle toxicity</h2><h3><b>Automatic Detection</b></h3><p>The first of our toxicity-mitigation measures is automated AFK and Draft Disconnection detection.  We use an escalating series of penalties for both AFK and Draft Disconnections, allowing us to be lenient for unexpected disconnections or life events, but with increasingly severe matchmaking bans for repeat offences. The goal of this system is to be a first line of defense to catch cases where a player was clearly and obviously contributing to a negative experience, either in draft or during a match.</p><h3><b>Report Action</b></h3><p>In addition to automatic detection, we also rely on the reports you make during matches to catch bad actors.  When a player is intentionally feeding the other team, is harassing other players in chat, or is otherwise making a clear effort to ruin the experience for everyone, please use the report feature! We collect and run your reports through a tool that allows us to identify and issue bans for the players that have clearly crossed the line. </p><p>Of course, we are careful about identifying the difference between a rough game and malicious trolling when handing out bans, and thus some may feel our punishments are too light at times. We hear your feedback, and we’re continuously evaluating report data as we try to find the best balance between shutting down trolls and troublemakers while sparing those that are otherwise doing their best but might have still been reported. We’re also planning to implement a “Thanks for Reporting!” feedback loop in the future to let you know when a player you’ve reported has been suspended, but that requires some custom tech that’s not available with the current tools we have. Soon™!</p><h3><b>Chat Moderation</b></h3><p>The third pillar of our Toxicity Triangle is automatic chat moderation. To help keep chat civil, we use an AI-based tool called <a href="https://www.ggwp.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><u>GGWP</u></a>. GGWP is a natural language processing model that we’ve had specifically trained for the Predecessor game and community. Rather than feeding a list of bad words to a bot that would sanction everyone equally regardless of context and prior chat history, the AI actually assesses several things, including:</p><ul><li><p>The vocabulary used in the messages across 16 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese)</p></li><li><p>The tone of the conversation taking place</p></li><li><p>The chat history (both recent and extended) of all conversing members</p></li></ul><p>This allows us to take a more nuanced approach, allowing for swearing or a bit of a salty rant in the appropriate context, but with a focus on limiting targeted toxicity and harassment among players. This also means two players saying the same thing might see different results depending on context, reputation, and other circumstances fed into the AI. If a player only ever uses chat to trash talk others, the AI will be less merciful and penalties will escalate up to and including permanent chat suspension.</p><h2 id="what-difference-does-it-make" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>What difference does it make?</b></h2><p>97% of all players who have ever used in-game text chat have a “moderate” or better chat history, and only 9% of players have ever received any kind of persistent mute sanction. Those numbers may seem surprisingly good in a competitive MOBA, but in reality we’ve found that a few bad apples tend to have a really outsized influence on the tone and toxicity level of a match, which is why a tool like GGWP that allows for message moderation as it happens is so important.</p><p>There are exceptions, of course. Derogative and very offensive language like slurs will get you silenced immediately regardless of how good your reputation is. And it doesn’t matter who was being addressed, whether it was a real person or a character from the game - that sort of language has no place in Predecessor, period.</p><p>We get that everyone is only human. It’s acceptable to get a little worked up if a game isn’t going your way or you’re just not on the same page as your teammates sometimes, but everything that actually needs to be communicated in the game can be said without flaming your teammates or resorting to targeted or hurtful language.</p><h2 id="how-do-i-steer-clear-of-the-ai" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>How do I steer clear of the AI?</b></h2><ul><li><p>Use chat to communicate strategy and banter with other players - if you’re not in the mood to be nice, don’t say anything.</p></li><li><p>If someone is being toxic, report them and mute them. Don’t be toxic back at them; that’s not a solution and you’ll both end up sanctioned.</p></li><li><p>Compliment your teammates when they do something awesome. Being kind to others will go a long way.</p></li><li><p>The AI will notice if you try to <i>d0dg3 w0rd f1lt3rs</i> to say something nasty, and you are subject to the same sanctions regardless of your creative spelling or w o r d  s p a c i n g. We regularly update our systems to include an increasingly bigger database of such creations.</p></li><li><p>You can always disable the in-game chat in the Game Settings if you don’t want to participate in the conversation for whatever reason. </p></li></ul><h2 id="feedback-and-improvement" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Feedback and Improvement</b></h2><p>Mistaken multi-match suspensions continue to be extremely rare. For example, only about 2% of the longer chat suspensions we’ve checked were applied incorrectly.  The model does use a lower threshold (with a slightly lower accuracy) for a single-match mute to allow for quicker shutdown of potentially toxic messages, but those short mutes are not part of the longer escalating suspensions and do not have any associated account penalties.</p><p>Many of the adjustments we’ve made to the system since its launch have been because of the messages and potential corrections you’ve flagged for us. <p>Greeting Champions!</p><p>With 2024 thoroughly underway and as we look ahead to the milestones we hope to hit over the coming months, we have new opportunities for Predecessor players to join us in testing out new versions of the game ahead of our upcoming Open Beta!</p><p>You may have already heard of our Internal Testing team, which is a collection of dedicated Predecessor players who take part in early playtests to provide feedback on upcoming characters and features. We’re looking to grow this team, inviting more of our community to step behind the curtain and help us make Predecessor the very best that we know it can be.</p><p>Specifically, we’re looking for up to 1,000 PC players to join us over the coming weeks, playtesting Predecessor on a private development branch and answering some feedback questions on their experience. To be clear, this test will not contain early access to new characters like Emerald or other new features, but instead focuses on the game experience as a whole, as we make stability and optimisation improvements to the entire game.</p><p>If you are selected to take part, you will be invited to join our private Discord server where you will get one-on-one interactions with our development team as they conduct and monitor tests, alongside our excellent Internal Testing team moderators who will assist you at every step.</p><p>Participants will receive a Steam code granting them access to a unique development branch of the game. There will be organised tests each week, taking part on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays during February and March. These tests will take place across both EU and NA regions.</p><p>You will be expected to adhere to strict privacy rules such as not streaming or recording tests, and you may be invited to sign an NDA.</p><p>In return, we’re offering everyone who takes part the opportunity to earn two upcoming skins (a common and a rare) on their live Predecessor game accounts. These will be rewarded based on your participation - with a higher account level at the end of the overall testing period netting you more rewards.</p><p>This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in Predecessor’s development.               <p>In return for all your support, we’re excited to share some positive news for PlayStation players and finally discuss what to expect after January 28th.</p><h2 id="the-current-end-of-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">The current end of the Closed Beta</h2><p>As previously communicated, we will be ending the current phase of our testing on PlayStation on January 28th.</p><p>This is a significant milestone in our development, and we’re pleased to share that we’ve gained comprehensive and invaluable data over the past few months that has proven instrumental to Predecessor’s ongoing development and the future of the game.</p><p>In fact, the Closed Beta has been such a monumental success for us that we’re now in a position to share some exciting news for PlayStation players - phase 2 of the Closed Beta!</p><h2 id="whats-coming-next" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What&#39;s coming next</h2><p>Phase 2 of the Closed Beta will go into effect from <b>January 29th,</b> and will run until we’re ready to take the next steps in our PlayStation development (more on that at a later date). The transition from phase 1 should be seamless, and aside from some potential server downtime on the day of transition as we update our servers, PlayStation players should expect to be able to continue enjoying Predecessor alongside PC users for the foreseeable future.</p><h3>Why?</h3><p>The reasoning behind this decision is threefold.</p><p>Firstly, this is the healthiest decision for our game. Predecessor is thriving thanks to <b>you</b>, its active, dedicated and engaged community. While we had planned last year to take Predecessor down in this window, we realize now that preventing a chunk of our players from playing in order to meet an expectation that we set last year no longer makes sense.</p><p>Secondly (<i>and most importantly for us</i>), we want to do this as thanks for everything you’ve done for us. PlayStation users have turned out in force to support Predecessor, and, if we can keep Closed Beta access going and have achieved our goals, then we want to do it. This game was born from the players, and our mission has always been to do right by our players, first and foremost.</p><p>Finally, we want everyone to be able to experience our next original Hero! <b>Codename: Emerald</b> is set to release February 27th, and we want PlayStation players to be a part of that experience! The team have worked incredibly hard on him, and we can’t wait to share more about this deadly Midlaner next month.</p><p>So why the second phase? Why not just extend the Closed Beta like we did back in December?</p><p>Well, it all comes down to something rather exciting. <b>We’re getting close to a Predecessor Open Beta</b>.</p><p>That’s right, Predecessor will be launching into Open Beta a little later this year! But before we’re ready to move into open beta, we need to test a few more things in the Closed Beta environment.</p><p>So let’s talk a little about…</p><h3>What’s changing?</h3><p>The biggest difference between phase 1 of the Closed Beta and phase 2 will be which Heroes are available to you.</p><p>Let’s start by revisiting what we said <a href="https://www.predecessorgame.com/news/notices/playstation-closed-beta-or-what-you-need-to-know#what-heroes-skins-and-features-will-i-have-access-to" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">way back in November</a>, when we first discussed how Heroes would be available in the original Closed Beta:</p>

        </div><p>When the Closed Beta launched, we opted to make nearly all Heroes released up until then available to PlayStation players straight out of the gate. The goal was to gather feedback and data on how they all behaved on PlayStation, including which heroes were the most popular, how each performed in the context of the PlayStation Closed Beta, and more.</p><p>Now that we’ve done that, however, our goal has shifted. We need to test and monitor the unlock process for PlayStation users as it will be in our later official release. After all, how players gain access to new Heroes is a crucial part of the game experience, so it’s important we take the time to go through it with the PlayStation player base ahead of the full platform launch.</p><p>As of phase 2 of the Closed Beta, we will be changing which Heroes Closed Beta accounts have default access to. Specifically, only 10 Heroes will be unlocked by default, with all other Heroes needing to be unlocked through play or purchased.</p><p><b>Those 10 Heroes are:</b></p><ul><li><p>Countess</p></li><li><p>Dekker</p></li><li><p>Gideon</p></li><li><p>Greystone</p></li><li><p>Grux</p></li><li><p>Khaimera</p></li><li><p>Kira</p></li><li><p>Murdock</p></li><li><p>Narbash</p></li><li><p>Steel</p></li></ul><p>In short, we’re aligning the PlayStation experience with the PC experience, finally creating parity between these platforms.</p><p>New players can expect to install Predecessor and have immediate access to the 10 Heroes listed above, with the option to purchase or unlock additional Heroes through gameplay.</p><p>For existing Closed Beta players, you will receive access to those same 10 Heroes, as well as any new Heroes you may have unlocked since the Closed Beta launched (<i>such as Wraith, Iggy &amp; Scorch and Kwang</i>). Any other Heroes will become locked, and you will be required to unlock them in order to play them.</p><p>Any skins you may have purchased or unlocked for Heroes regardless of their unlock status will remain credited to your account, and will be available to you once you obtain the associated Hero (or by default if it is one of the default Heroes). Likewise, if a Hero you’ve been playing becomes locked in Phase 2, your Affinity progress will be saved and can be picked up right where it has been left off, once that Hero is unlocked.</p><h3>Will I need a new game key to play this new phase of the Closed Beta?</h3><p>Nope! If you already have Predecessor installed or redeemed to your PlayStation account you will be able to play with no interruptions.</p><p>Still need a key? We’re planning an Open Beta for Predecessor and we’re closing in on it fast.</p><p>While we don’t have a date to share today, you can expect more news in the coming months, including how we’ll be handling the transition out of Closed Beta for PlayStation users and what it’ll mean for Steam and Epic players.</p><p>Open Beta serves as a monumental milestone in Predecessor’s development process, and represents a huge step forwards towards a full release out of Early Access further down the line.</p><p>We’d like to once again thank you all for all of your ongoing feedback and support.
